Suggested Course of Action for Tesla Going Forward

To this point, I believe that Tesla has taken most of the actions the company should have taken. It gets tricky when determining a possible course of action for a company like this.       One of the most pressing issues in my opinion is the child labor and unsafe practices surrounding the mining of cobalt in the DRC. Unfortunately, the cobalt is a vital mineral required to produce the batteries needed for the electric vehicles and many other electronic devices. Tesla has no control over the means' cobalt is mined, however the do have the control on if it is necessary to support their practices. Theoretically, if Tesla and many other companies that funded the mining of cobalt stood up to the industry, they could change the conditions in which the workers mine the minerals in. It would need some form of a boycott to enact change, but financially I do not think this response would be a smart decision to make. No cobalt means no batteries means no car...

They argue that the benefits of Tesla's electric cars and renewable energy initiatives outweigh any negative aspects. Some reasons why there is large public support for Tesla include: Environmental Concerns: Tesla's electric cars and renewable energy initiatives are seen by consumers and many stakeholders as an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional gas-powered vehicles and energy sources. Introduction to Tesla's Ethical Situation

Image
Tesla, as a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, faces several ethical dilemmas that can impact its reputation, customer loyalty, and overall success.      One ethical problem is related to the use of cobalt in the production of EV batteries. Cobalt is a crucial component of lithium-ion batteries, which power EVs. The mining of cobalt is publicly associated with several ethical and environmental issues. Cobalt is a crucial component of lithium-ion batteries that are used in electric vehicles, smartphones, and other electronic devices. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) produces more than half of the world's cobalt. There have been numerous reports of human rights abuses in cobalt mining, including child labor, forced labor, and unsafe working conditions. Many of the workers who mine cobalt are children who work long hours in dangerous conditions and are paid unliveable wages. Moreover, the mining process produces large amounts of waste, which ca...
